Chadar Trek (Frozen River Trek Package) 2019
Chadar trek is one of the most thrilling yet a challenging one for the trekkers in Ladakh. The temperature during winter in Ladakh drops down to minus 5 to 40 degrees, yet the trekkers, the exceptional adamant one choose this trekking. This trekking is worth the challenge; it is like the path least travel and you will see the hidden or unreachable ranges of the uppermost section of the Himalayas. Since this trek demands ample of physical strength, one must be above 20 and should be physically fit. Within 8 days you will taste the chilly weather, but with the satisfaction of reaching the unseen villages and people by the rest of the world. Your journey will start after reaching Leh from flight, right after getting down you will welcome the cold weather, that day you will take full rest to adjust with the weather, after that day you will go for local sightseeing, by visiting few monasteries. During the third day your actual journey to walk on the frozen river will start from Chilling and you started camping at the side of the river bank until the day you reach Leh i.e. the day seven. Throughout this journey you will be accompanied by cook, helper, and porters.
Day 1: Delhi – Leh:
Arrive at Leh airport, you will be received by our representative and transferred to the hotel, booked for you. Take a full day rest at the hotel as you need to acclimatize well. Since it is the peak season of winter, the temperature will go down from minus 5 to 25 degrees; you will definitely feel the extreme chill from the moment you get down from the flight. Spend your night at hotel.
Day 2: Sightseeing of Hemis, Thiksey and Shey:
After having your breakfast, drive to full day sightseeing by visiting Shey Palace, which means ‘looking glass’ as it got its name due to the reflection of the palace seen on the lake situated below the palace. Also you will visit Thiksey monastery situated 17kms south of Leh, it is one of the most beautiful of all the monasteries in Leh and you will also visit Hemis monastery, it is the largest monastery of Ladakh situated 45kms south of Leh. Expense your knowledge on Buddhism whilst visiting those monasteries and local livelihood by talking to a monk or local people.
Day 3: Leh – Chiling/Tilatdo to Shingra-Gongma (3200m) 5 hrs drive (Taxi/Bus):
In the morning after breakfast drive towards Nimoo where the confluence of river Zanskar and Indus is located, from there take left and drive along the Zanskar River till you reach Sumdado. At Chiling after Lunch visit the White Copper artists famous for their handmade works. After that walking towards Tilatdo (0.5hr) from where the Trek will start till you reach Shingra-gongma (5 hrs). Today is the day you will actually start walking on the frozen river, you will pitch your camp at the bank of Zanskar River. As the dusk ascent the coldness will arise too, your sleeping bag and the warm water will keep you warm. Spend your night in the tent.
Day 4: Trek Shingra-gongma to Deepyokma (3300m) 4 hrs.
In the morning after having your breakfast with a hot cup of tea to beat the freezing weather and energise you for yet another challenging 4 hours trek to Deepyokma. Starting this trek to Deepyokma where you’ll see numbers of caves, and you will also see Tsomo Paldar, naturally flowing spring water. After a day long trek you will set your tent at Deepyokma for your night stay or you can stay in cave.
Day 5: Deepyokma to Nyrakpulu (3400m) 4-5 hrs.
Start the trek to Deepyokma, after 4-5 hours of walk you will be reaching Nyarakpulu. After another 1hr walk up along with a small stream you will reach a beautiful village called Nyarak. Reaching this village you will get to know about Zanskar people and its way of life. From there Singee-La will be visible, which is a summer trek pass. Overnight either you can set your tent at the side of irrigation field or take a night stay at local shelter.
Day 6: Nyarakpulu – Deepyokma (3300m) 5hrs:
On the way back you will take the same route back from Nyarakpulu to Deepyokma. Spend the night in camp at the side of river bank or in the cave.
Day 7: Trek Deepyokma – Tilatdo/Chilling/Leh (3200m) (5hrs trek & 5 hrs drive)
Trek back from Tsomopaldar to Shingra gongma, Tilatdo and then to chilling. This is the final day of your trek on frozen river, after reaching Chilling you will drive back to Leh bidding farewell to the adventurous yet a challenging trekking. Spend your night at hotel.
Day 8: Leh – Delhi:
In the morning transfer to the airport from where you’ll board the flight to Delhi.
