Trek Leh to Chilling to Karsha Chadar Trek 2020The traditional name of the trek is "Chadar Trek" the frozen sheet trek, which was only way in and out for the people of Zanskar in winters when all other ways are closed due to heavy snow fall at high passes. You sure need a reasonable physical fitness to gear up for this particular trekking, the best season to do this trekking is from mid January till the mid of February. This trekking will give you a catchy view for the photographers and nature lover.
Leh to Chilling to Karsha to Chilling to Leh
Day 1: Delhi – Leh:
Arrive at Leh airport,to be received by our representative & transferred to the hotel. Take a full day rest as you need to acclimatize well to the high altitude. Stay overnight at the hotel.
Day 2: Sightseeing around Leh.
After breakfast proceed for the sightseeing tour of Leh with visits to Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa, Overnight Hotel.
Day 3: Leh – Chiling/Tilatdo/Shingra Yokma to Shingra-Gongma (3200m) 5 hrs drive (Taxi/Bus):/1 ½ Hrs Trek
In the morning after breakfast drive towards Nimoo where the confluence of river Zanskar and Indus is located, from there take left and drive along the Zanskar River till you reach Sumdado. At Chiling after Lunch visit the White Copper artists famous for their handmade works. After lunch drive Shingra Yokma from where the Trek will start till you reach Shingra-gongma ( 1 ½ hrs). Today is the day you will actually start walking on the frozen river, you will pitch your camp at the bank of Zanskar River. As the dusk ascent the coldness will arise too, your sleeping bag and the warm water will keep you warm. Spend your night in the tent.
Day 4: Trek Shingra Gongma to Deep Yokma(3300m) 5 hrs.
In the moring after having your breakfast with a hot cup of tea to beat the freezing weather and energise you for yet another challenging 5 hours trek to Deep. Starting this trek to Deep where you’ll see numbers of caves, and you will also see Tsomo Paldar, naturally flowing spring water. After a day long trek you will set your tent at Deep for your night stay.
Day 5: Deep Yokma to Nyrakpulu (3400m) 4-5 hrs.
Start the trek from Deep, after 4-5 hours of walk you will be reaching Nyarakpulu. After Lunch visit the Big water fall and beautiful village called Nyarak. Reaching this village you will get to know about Zanskar people and its way of life. From there Singee-La will be visible, which is a summer trek.Overnight Camp.
Day 6: Nyarakpulu – Lingshed (3800m) 6-7 hrs.
Walk on Chadar / Frozen sheet for 1-2hrs & then another 5hrs steep walk up to Lingshed Village. All your tiredness will vanish after spending the night at Lingshed village Home stays where local heating is available. Overnight Homestay.
Day 7: Lingshed Full day rest:
Spend the day exploring Lingshed Village, its Monastery & a school for the monks. Lingshed is connected with other parts of Ladakh only through trek routes therefore in winters hardly any tourists visits this place. Overnight Homestay.
Day 8: Trek Lingshed – Tsarakdo 7hrs.
Start the trek early as today you will have to walk for 7 hrs to reach Tsarakdo. Overnight camp
Day 9: Trek Tsarakdo – Pidmo 5hrs.
Trek on the ice trail through the gorge. The gorge ends at Hanamur and the view opens at Pidmo. Overnight camp.
Day 10: Trek Pidmo –Zangla 5hrs.
A short walk on the road will lead you from Pidmo to the village of Zangla. We cross the Chadar by bridge to reach Zangla, where the erstwhile king of Zanskar resides. We will visit the fort and go around the large village. Overnight in Zangla village.
Day 11: Zangla – Karsha 3-4hrs drive
Morning after breakfast, drive to Stongde village & visit beautiful Stongde monastery built on hill top by Lama Marpa 950 years ago. From the monastery, you have amazing and spectacular view of mountains. Overnight camp.
Day 12: Karsha (3800m):
Spend the day exploring the valley & visiting the Karsha Monastery one of largest monastery in Zanskar, founded by Great Lama Phagspa Shesrab. Overnight camp.
Day 13: Karsha – Tsarakdo drive 4-5hrs.
Day 14: Tsarakdo - Nyrakpulu: 6 hrs
Start from Tsarakdo & reach Nyarakpulu. Camp at an irrigation field. Another 1hr walk up along with a small stream you will reach a beautiful village called Nyarak. From here Singee-La will be visible, which is a summer trek pass. Overnight camp.
Day 15: Nyrakpulu to Deep Yokma (3300m)4- 5hrs.
On the way back you will take the same route back from Nyrakpulu to Deep Yokma. Spend the night in camp at the side of river bank.
Day 16: Deepyokma – Shingragongma to Tilat doChilling to Leh 9 hrs.
Trek from Deepyokma to Shingra gongma to Chiling via Tilatdo. From Chiling you will be driven to Leh in a Jeep. Overnight in a Hotel.
Day 17: Leh - Delhi.
In the morning you will be transferred to the airport from where you’ll board the flight to Delhi.
